The story
I'd wanted an E46 coupé since I was seventeen. When a one-owner Topaz Blue car appeared forty minutes from home, I stopped pretending I was going to buy something sensible.
Seven years, three sets of tyres and one very expensive VANOS lesson. It has never let me down on a drive that mattered.
A 5am run to the Peak District in October. Empty roads, cold air, the straight-six warming up through the valley.
Keep it standard. Refresh the suspension bushes this winter and put another 20k of good miles on it.
